Colorado Workers’ Compensation Employee Rights & Responsibilities
Colorado Workers’ Compensation laws are designed to provide benefits to injured employees. But sorting through the paperwork, dealing with your injuries, and worrying about whether you’ll be able to keep your job, can be extremely overwhelming. If you’ve been injured on the job, be sure you’re well informed of your rights, and that you’re getting the treatment and compensation you’re entitled to. We hope the following information will help answer any questions you might have.
Employee’s Rights & Responsibilities
Being injured on the job can be scary and turn your life upside down. Suddenly, you aren’t able to do the work that you rely on for your living. Be sure you follow the steps you need to take and do the things you need to do in order to get better and get back to work.
Here are just a few of the rights & responsibilities you’ll need to be aware of as you make your way through a Workers’ Compensation case.
- You must report your injuries to your employer immediately. If you failed to report your injury right away, be sure to report it as soon as possible, otherwise, you may not be able to get all of the compensation you’re entitled to.
- If you have been injured and you’re getting medical treatment, make sure you continue to show up to work and do your duties, as long as they are done within the restrictions given by your treating doctor.
- It is your responsibility to tell both your employer and your doctor if you are not able to continue to do the assigned job duties.
- Although your employer has the right to initially choose the doctor you must visit, you have a right to request a change of doctors from an approved list.
While you are responsible for taking care of yourself, continuing to do the work you’re able to do, and getting the treatment required, your employer is also responsible for certain parts of the Workers’ Compensation claim process.
