What Have Yaz® Studies Revealed?

Yaz blood clot warnings have been issued by leading medical groups such as the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, FDA, British Medical Journal and New England Journal of Medicine.

All birth control pills come with some risk. Two to four women per 10,000 on the pill will suffer blood clots, and some will die as a result. But with Yaz®, several new independent studies have put that risk two to three times higher.

The FDA has revealed that among women taking Yaz®, there have been over 22,000 reports of adverse events — including 3,509 reports of pulmonary embolism and 2,847 of deep vein thrombosis.

Studies undertaken independent of Bayer suggested a 50-to-75 percent increased risk of clots for those taking these birth control pills in comparison to others. A former FDA commissioner, David Kessler, charged that Bayer deliberately withheld data about this early on in order to push through the drugs’ approvals. In response, the FDA called an advisory committee to evaluate the safety of birth control pills containing drospirenone. The decision had the potential to cause the drugs to be pulled off the market, but the panel voted by a four-person margin that the drugs’ benefit outweighed the risks.
Women taking Yasmin® have reported nearly 18,000 adverse events – including 2,297 reports of pulmonary embolism and 1,953 reports of DVT. Thousands of those affected by serious Yaz® side effects have filed lawsuits against Bayer for their injuries.

Lawyers across the country are currently filing lawsuits on behalf of the women and their families that have suffered a serious side effect of Yaz®. When faced with the aftermath of a stroke, heart attack or pulmonary embolism, you could be looking at months of recovery, thousands of dollars in medical related costs and a loss of income due to your illness. Compensation through a Yaz® lawsuit can help pay for these damages so you and your family can move on.
