Organization Working To Reduce Colorado Car Accidents Resulting From Distracted Driving

July 10, 2013

Several studies have shown that distracted driving is quickly becoming a leading cause of Colorado Car Accidents involving teenagers. Furthermore, the summer months are when the highest number of incidents occur. Experts tend to believe this is because teens are out of school and traveling throughout the summer.

In an effort to keep teens from using their cellphones while behind the wheel of a vehicle, the organization, DoSomething.org, has launched a new campaign aimed at making teens more aware of the dangers of distracted driving. According to an article from FOX 21 News, the program is called “Thumb Wars” and consists of distributing two pairs of thumb “socks” to participating teenagers.

The teens are then asked to keep one pair of the socks as a reminder to themselves not to text and driver and to give the other pair to a friend or peer in order to initiate a conversation about the dangers of distracted driving. Participants are also urged to use social media outlets to share their stories about distributing the socks.

Officials with the organization believe that peer-to-peer exchanges will be the most effective way to get teens to recognize the dangers of texting while driving.

The Denver Personal Injury Lawyers with McDivitt Law Firm applaud the efforts being made to reduce the number of distracted drivers on Colorado’s roads. The firm is hopeful the campaign is a success!
