Distracted driving is becoming increasingly problematic in this country. Government figures show that in 2010, more than 3,000 people died and an estimated 416,000 individuals were injured in the United States as a result of automobile accidents caused by distracted drivers. Experts say the only way to end the problem is through public education.
The Colorado Springs Car Accident Lawyers with the McDivitt Law Firm are working to make the public aware of distracted driving risks by hosting a yearly contest where local students create public service announcements to educate motorists on vehicle safety topics like distracted driving. Contest winners receive the choice of a laptop computer with movie-making software or a $1,500 gift card.
A recent press release from the firm announced this year’s winners, both of whom created pieces dealing with how distracted driving is causing an increasing number of Colorado car accidents. The firm’s founding attorney, Mike McDivitt, commented on the winners’ entries, stating, “Distracted driving is more than just a hazard. It’s an epidemic. When young people are allowed to express themselves about this and other issues, the results can be powerful.”
The Colorado Springs Personal Injury Lawyers at the McDivitt Law Firm are proud to know that the PSA contest and other programs in the McDivitt Makes A Difference campaign are helping to keep the citizens of Colorado safe while on the driving on the state’s highways.
