Action Taken to Improve Dam Following Colorado Wrongful Death Lawsuit

When a person is killed as the result of another person or company’s negligence, the Colorado Wrongful Death Lawyers with McDivitt Law Firm explain that the family of the victim may have a legal right to file a civil lawsuit.

A recent civil suit has resulted in major changes to a dam on Cypress Creek in Florence, Colorado.

The dam was originally built in the 1980s and its design is believed to have been a contributing factor in at least five deaths. One of the lives claimed was that of a 24-year-old man,who was killed while canoeing near the dam.

His family filed a Colorado wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Florence, alleging problems with the dam and the city’s failure to fix issues responsible for the young man’s death. A jury agreed and ruled warnings about the dam’s dangers should be made public several times throughout each year.

According to an article from the Times Daily, the city is also preparing to break ground on a $1.2 million project to upgrade the structure of the dam to make it safer.

The McDivitt Law Firm’s team of Colorado Personal Injury Lawyers hopes the legal action against the city and the construction project that is under way is effective in preventing more tragic accidents from occurring near the Cypress Creek dam.
