In 2007, Karen and Mike McDivitt founded the firm’s community outreach program, McDivitt Makes a Difference, which encompasses the broad-reaching community efforts of the firm and its team members. McDivitt’s community outreach is not limited to corporate donations to worthwhile causes, but includes the time and effort given by all McDivitt team members who work hard throughout the year to volunteer at local non-profits and raise money for a host of organizations.
Cedar Ridge Elementary playground
On September 14, 2018, Cedar Ridge Elementary in Pueblo West officially opened its new playground. It is the first universally inclusive playground in Pueblo, which means it’s accessible to kids of all ranges of ability. The co-chairs of the playground’s committee received money from the state when the project was approved for the Great Outdoors Colorado grant, and the rest of the money for the project came from corporate donations. McDivitt Law Firm donated funds to help pay for a ramp that will allow any child in a wheelchair to access the playground. As a firm that helps those struggling with the difficulties of mobility after an injury, we were thrilled to help support such a valuable community asset.
American Heart Association
In 2013, the team members at McDivitt Law Firm raised more than $12,000 for the American Heart Association. Thanks to months of hard work and dedication by all of the staff members and attorneys at McDivitt, the firm was one of the top fundraisers in the area. “Our team members have worked tirelessly to surpass the goal they set of $10,000,” said David McDivitt, COO of McDivitt Law Firm. “I couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishment and knowing this money is going to help fund research and find cures that will truly make a difference in people’s lives.”
Fire and flood relief efforts
In the past two years, communities in Colorado have been hit hard by fires and floods. Many times, our team members have been evacuated or displaced, and certainly our clients and neighbors have been affected. For that reason, the team members of McDivitt Law Firm frequently do whatever they can to help raise money or donate needed items to victims of these natural disasters. From opening our office doors to other attorneys who need space to work, to doing firm-wide fundraisers to help organizations like the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. We are proud members of the Colorado community, and we are always looking for ways to lend a helping hand.
Care and share
Over the holiday season, Care and Share of Colorado Springs typically sees an increase in need for volunteers to help sort and distribute food donations. McDivitt Law Firm helps out during these times, finding shifts during the holidays where our team members can take off work for a few hours to pitch in to help. These are just a few ways McDivitt works to make a difference in our community.
